CBS 2 Chicago: Creative Editing of a 4-Year Old’s Interview

with 2 comments

I’d write a little more to describe what I think about this, but I think the video–and the NAACP response afterwards–says everything that I could.

In lieu of a regular full-length entry, enjoy the video and leave comments below.

More tomorrow.

The way this week has been going, probably a whole lot more.

  1. Before the unedited piece was shown I was enraged. It pisses me off that the media outlet chose to edit that little boy’s comments in such a manner alluding to a future lifestyle as a gun-toting thug. I share the sentiments of Ben Jealous. Did the parents give permission for their child to be interviewed? I’ve done enough in project mgmt roles to know how much editing is done to videos and comments to fit within the [time, word count] boundaries given but this is a perfect example of words being taken out of context. Has CBS issued an apology?

    • @CDB–I’d assume his parents did give permission to be interviewed, and someone who knew the little boy obviously had the wherewithal to record the entire interview. …but you know what they say when you assume. :/

And of course they haven’t issued an apology, because they don’t think anyone of importance has noticed yet.
